how did you get started with weightlifting/cross fit? I’ve never been an athletic person, and I had an ED that I would say I’m physically recovered from completely and so so mentally lol but it seems sooo intimidating. I started running casually (like my goal is a 5k) and I do YouTube videos but with very very light weights like 5lbs. how do you get to where you are? it’s so inspiring!

hello friend!! i think you're doing a great job and i think that whatever movement you're doing now is fantastic! i do also always love hearing from people who want to get super strong haha

i truly just went to a trial class at the crossfit gym and told the coach i'd never ever stepped foot in a gym in my life, and they were so helpful and kind and showed me how to do everything. i started from the VERY bottom - i also was still pretty deep in an ED and was incredibly iron deficient. i had no stamina and no strength, and i had to scale literally everything back! i also truly didn't think that i was 'athletic' - in high school i didn't like any of the sports on offer because my eyesight is so bad i can't really play ball sports. i'm a good swimmer and i danced all through high school up until last year, but it turned out that i'm actually naturally really strong and powerful; i just had to find the sport that was right for me! plus you're looking at (nearly) 10 years of consistent training, too, so i won't tell you it's possible in like 8 weeks haha

as for getting started - if you think you have a pretty good grasp of movements and you don't mind going to a gym and training by yourself, then megsquats on instagram has a really good program called 'before the barbell' that is a really helpful guide to progress from bodyweight to dumbbells to barbells. i use her strength program 'stronger by the day' and it's a very good program to get strong and build muscle mass - i've been using it since 2019. i have other recs too, if you would like more options.

if you think that you'd like to try crossfit and that group class vibe, then i reckon reach out to a gym close by and just chat to them! in my experience (as an athlete but also as a crossfit coach haha), the majority of crossfit coaches are very kind and patient and understand that it's pretty overwhelming at first. they'll take you through some on boarding stuff and will make sure that you're moving well and safely, as well as feeling comfortable. i started with crossfit because i knew that i needed a coach around to make sure i was doing the right thing, plus it meant that i didn't have to worry about finding a program or anything; i just rocked up and they told me what the workout was and how i was going to scale it, and i just had to do it haha (plus you get the benefits of like a readymade group of friends)

i finished the third scene of cryptids wip which is great but also it was kind of a drag to write :/ Not too happy with how it turned out but it’s a starting point. One time Omega saw a group of girls a couple years older than her all walking around the market wearing sundresses and decided she wanted to try one

Side note: Omega really looks up to these girls, and they, in turn, are really in awe of her, this younger girl who has gone toe-to-toe with Imperials and lived to tell the tale

Anyway Lyana helps her find a cute dress she likes. It’s like a sunset, yellow, orange, and pink in a nice ombre

The first time she wears it, Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair are absolutely beside themselves, just melting into puddles of goo lol

Omega pretends to be mildly annoyed by this reaction but she really finds it very endearing

She only ever has one sundress at a time as she grows because she really prefers pants and like, a flight jacket, but every once in a while she feels like wearing a dress. Sometimes they’re really comfy on a hot summer day

People on Pabu are generally very nice, but you know, kids being kids, there’s a bully or two at school occasionally

Omega has absolutely zero tolerance for this bullshit

She instantly throws hands the first time she sees someone getting bullied

She promptly gets sent home lol (not in a bs zero tolerance policy kind of way, but in a “let’s not solve problems with violence” and the bully gets an appropriate punishment while the defender gets a lecture kind of way)

Hunter has to be The Responsible Parent™️ about it, scolding her for throwing a punch at someone who isn’t an Imperial

Although he does tell her she was right for standing up for people and he’s proud of her for it, just maybe don’t do it Like That in this situation

Wrecker and Crosshair are in the background kinda backing him up by nodding along, but pointedly avoiding eye contact with each other because otherwise they’ll Lose It

Once Hunter walks away tho, all bets are off, and they start asking her if she won (of course she did), what technique did she use, could she give a play-by-play, etc, they’re very proud

Joke’s on them, Hunter heard the entire conversation and he’s just off in another room smirking to himself because they taught her well and he’s proud too

This happens at least three more times before Omega gets the message and starts shutting down bullies verbally, but by that point she doesn’t need to do it nearly as often because the whole school has seen her fight and doesn’t want to mess with her lol

Ok just gonna do a quick ramble about how i see them here, from no abs to yes abs

Gale: nerd who stays solely in his tower. His abs might be there but if they are its all illusion magic babey, there is SOFTNESS and thats a hill i will die on

Shadowheart: no visible abs and shes not particularly strong, shes just basically fit in a way where running up a small hill wouldn't kill her and her knees wouldn't creak when she crouches (sorry Gale), no abs, stomach soft to touch

Wyll: he's fit enough but not that strong, id say there is no ab definition but he can do some situps without feeling agony in the morning. They exist but theyre covered completely, you could feel them if he flexed!

Astarion: now. NOW. hear me out. He has abs at the start of the game and itd make sense because even though hes not that strong his DEX is high and it could make sense. BUT. as the game progresses he loses the abs because he is for the first time on 200 years not constantly dehydrated/starved and his body gets into a more normal state. His initial ab definition makes sense if we remember how movie stars look like when they dehydrate before shoots to make muscles more visible, id say same thing.

Karlach: abs of steel BUT theyre not that visible, she's strong as hell but id also give her some meat on the bone to make her stronger especially in the waist area. Similar to Astarion she also softens as the game progresses but worry not, the abs are still there, like bricks covered with a layer of fluff (youre so right for this anon)

Lae'zel: skinny and strong, you could cut yourself on how defined her abs are. She looks like shed have metabolism of a horse or maybe its just how githyanki are built but yeah she should be the only one whos stomach muscles present a risk of poking out your eye. Ab queen.

I have a question for you!

Do you think Aang is the Zseto of the Air Nomad?

I've seen people theorize about this and I'm a little confused myself. When you try to defend Aang, people get a little narrow-minded because they think you're putting him on a pedestal, that he's perfect, etc. It's okay for characters to have mistakes. Every avatar has mistakes, which makes them unique. I know some Aang stans are pretty aggressive. But for me, that's not the case. It's just that they're trying to expand other perspectives of Aang's character. There are so many debates about his character, but these ones just baffle me. One of the reasons I like Aang is because of his mistakes, how he owns them, and the consequences. Overall, I wanted to hear your thoughts, since you have more experience in Korra's story, with all your meta and analysis on your blog.

Here are some arguments that pushed this theory:

The fact that Aang had to rebuild the air nation left the so-called peoples in disfavor.

Aang in the comics who is too restricted to changes, technologies, which might have brought the benders and not the benders to conflict.

The way Aang treated his son Tenzin and taught him to be an airbender. Which led Tenzin to be less open to future Airnomads. The fact that he is a bad father because he focused on Tenzin and left his others.

These are not my thoughts, but arguments that validated this theory! I would be happy to hear your thoughts!

Huh, I've only ever heard the argument Aang being similar to Szeto only a few times ans never really put a lot of thought into it. I'll be honest, I don't really have as much of a hate for Szeto as a lot of people in the fandom do. Like yeah I'll still make jokes about Tax Boy McNationalist, but from what I know of him, he genuinely seemed to do his best. Like he grew up in a time of conflict, economical strife, plagues and natural disasters. There was a lot of shit going on in the Fire Nation and the Avatar usually goes where they're needed most. And I think a lot of people forget how much a poor economy can ruin lives.

Was he biased? Sure, but I think it's inevitable that most Avatars will be biased towards their homeland and loved ones. Look at the difference between how Korra handled the Southern Water Tribe being taken over by the North and how she handled Zaofu being invaded by the Earth Empire. And don't even get me started on Roku. Even Wan seemed to have his biases when dealing with his friends from the Fire Lion Turtle.

Singling out Avatars like Szeto or Aang really is pretty pointless.

Particularly with Aang, who has every right to be biased. Like, we need to remember that the airbenders were not only wiped out but also wiped out 100 years ago. And if Aang wants to perserve their culture, he has to scramble to find artifacts, and immortalise what memories he has in that lil twelve year old noggin of his before he forgets.

You lose track of cultural items surprisingly fast, I know this as a Pole. You won't BELIVE how much of our art and other historical items are still missing because some asshole nazi decided he wanted a souvenir from that time he helped commit a genocide.

Does Aang come off as overzealous, a bit preachy and occasionally overly strict with his beliefs? Yeah a little, but he has reason too. Aang is an individual with extremely strong convictions and firm beliefs, which is admirable for someone so young. It can cause interpersonal issues, and can be annoying if you can't empathise with him. But I think what we need to remember is that with a philosophy as deeply spiritual and internal as that of the Air Nomads, one infraction can seemingly feel like you're failing it. We must remember that to Aang, giving up Air Nomad philosophies even once will probably seem like betraying the legacy of his people.

Aang is a flawed character, but all characters are flawed and multi faceted. That's good storytelling, babey.

Ok, but onto the points you raise

1. Aang prioritising the Air Nation over others

I think this is a pretty silly argument, since Aang's first act as Avatar was to literally save the world from the Fire Nation, but ok. Let's play along. I think this is also unfounded, since we see Aang having so much influence on the other nations, being involves with their leaders and assisting the civilians. I also love seeing Aang's very unique perspective on engaging with the other nations.

As a genocide survivor, we see Aang support Katara, another genocude survivor in reconnecting with and rbuilding her culture. And as someone who existed 100 years ago and travelled around a lot, Aang has knowledge of other Nations that has since been lost to time and the war. He remembers natural wonders and sacred places in the Earth Kingdom, and encourages the children of the Fire Nation to reconnect with the expressive, artistic side of their heritage which has been stomped down by the new utilitarian regime of the Nation.

And I swear to god if someone brings up Aang not liking sea prune soup and being mildly startled by an animal pelt I will shoot them.

For better or for worse, Aang also created Republic City, which was an attempt at bridging the divides formed between the three nations.

2. Aang's aversion to technology

Before I touch on this point, I think we need to remember that atla is happening smack dab in the middle of an industrial revolution. And Aang has existed 100 years before this industrial revolution. Imagine showing a 12 year old from the 17th century a steam locomotive I think he'd be baffled and disconcerted.

Furthermore, in 2 out of three of the times we see Aang upset about technology it's because from his perspective, suddenly there's tons of machinery sprouting from places that were important to him. In the first instance, it's at the Northern Air Temple, a place that probably housed at least a few of Aang's friends. And the second is in a sacred area. Not to mention that these renovations were entirely uninvited and unexpected, so I think it's only natural thay Aang feels violated on behalf of his entire culture and people.

In the third instance, Aang expresses frustration with industrialisation because it caused pollution and antagonism between benders and nonbenders. His frustration is understandable. He is essentially witnessing a huge change to what he percieves as the natural order, and from his subconscious perspective, this has all happened in a short amount of time.

But we also see Sokka quickly check Aang's frustration, reminding him that innovation can be a good thing and that it's bad people who use it irresponsibly. And Aang apologises and agrees. I think this is what people often forget. Aang is very good at listening to people and taking in their perspective.

Aang's constant struggle with how the world has changed is one of my favourite aspect of his story since it really emphasises how lost and alone he could feel in this world.

3. Aang's poor parenting and that it led to Tenzin struggling with the future airbenders

I honestly dislike the blanket statement that Aang was a bad father. Flawed? Yeah, totally. But bad? Absolutely not.

Even Bumi and Kya admit that their father loved them and that he cared for them, but was held back by his responsibilities.

I think most children of Avatars will have at least a small amount of resentment towards their parent's status and the responsibilities and pressure it lays upon them. Plus, Aang and hid children had the added weight of an entire genocide on their shoulders.

And between managing a world that has only recently become peaceful, trying to rebuild a nation and doing regular Avatar stuff, it's not hard to see how Aang may have struggled to give his children time. Tenzin just happened to fit into one of those goals enough that Aang could bring him along.

This did cause Tenzin a lot of stress and feelings of pressure. But Aang always tried to reassure his son. It just sometimes happens that children internalise the wrong message.

And Aang could never have forseen the return of the airbenders through Harmonic Convergence, so how could he have prepared Tenzin for handling a bunch of terrified, newly bending people who suddenly became a part of an almost extinct culture.

Aang prepared Tenzin to educate Air Acolytes, nonbenders of different nationalities who willingly joined the cause of rebuilding the Air Nation and were already interested in the culture.

And to Aang and Tenzin's credit, the one Asir Acolyte who got airbending, named Otaku seemed to be genuinely enjoying all this.

Look at his nerdass. He's having a whale of a time.

I think while these criticisms are valid to some extent, they are overblown. Aang's flaws exist to make an interesting story and to make him an interesting character. I don't want to say every action of Aang's is entirely right and morally correct all the time. But every action he takes is understandable. We can follow his thought process and I think that's very good writing.

I also find it a bit of an annoying trend to compare Avatars. I've seen people do it with Aang and Korra and it always rubbed me the wrong way. Every Avatar is unique and has their own story, personality, morals and flaws. I love that about the Avatar franchise, but I see a lot of people so resistant to anything that doesn't fit their own narratives.

biggest thoughts on skyward sword link?

aight. get ready. because I have many thoughts about him.

So, first off, yes, he is a silly sleepy doofus of a sky boy who is extremely soft and adorable and deserves everything. But, while that take is 100% correct and should not be overlooked, he is also a feral rabid gremlin who can and will tear your face off with his bare hands if the need arises (such as if you threaten Zelda).

(I mean. there's your proof right there...)

Now, a lot of people think that Link from Breath of the Wild is the strongest/toughest/etc.

Politely, I disagree.

So then who is the strongest? None other than Sky Link.

Let's start with the basics. He might not have been raised on a farm or in service as a knight for the royal family, but at the same time, he's attended an academy specifically for training knights his entire life. At the start of the game he can lift and throw massive barrels, is stated and shown to be an excellent climber, is a natural at Loftwing flying and at catching Zelda when she throws herself off of Skyloft, and is already excellent with a blade. Later on he can lift and throw small boulders, and push large wooden crates and metal carts.

But like I said, that's just the basics.

Sky Link also fights/defeats the Imprisoned and Ghirahim three times. Both grow stronger with each battle, but he defeats them nonetheless. Ghirahim at first sees him as just a silly little child who can't possibly defeat him; he quickly learns Link is anything but that and in all three of his fights becomes so humiliated that he rages at Link and on two occasions leaves instead of allowing himself to be defeated further. "You think I can't defeat you? You think I can't win? What are you, boy?" he asks in the final fight. He's afraid of Link, because Link is too powerful for him. He's the silly soft sky child, but three times now he has claimed victory over the Demon King's right hand man.

Then there's the Silent Realms, of which Link goes through four. Each one becomes increasingly more difficult and dangerous, and yet he completes all of them. Not only that, but he finds each Sacred Flame required to strengthen Fi and ends up forging the true Master Sword. He also earns and wields the full Triforce, which only a tiny handful of other Links have done. He also survives getting crushed by boulders on numerous occasions and is imprisoned (probably with a concussion) but escapes; battles a massive army of Moblins, Stalfos, and Bokoblins; and with each Silent Realm, his spirit grows, signifying he is not only strong physically, but mentally.

Anything I'm forgetting, besides the fact that Hylia specifically chose him to be her hero and defeat-

Oh yeah.

Demise.

Yup, in case anyone forgot, Sky Link kills Demise, the literal embodiment of evil itself, the original villain from whom Ganondorf comes. Demise is the most powerful enemy in LoZ who not only destroyed Hylia, but nearly all of the Surface as well; according to him, humans cower and quake upon seeing him; none but Link have ever dared to even consider standing up to him. Fighting Link, to Demise, is a casual, lighthearted ordeal where he believes he can take it easy before going off and destroying the world.

But yeah, that doesn't quite happen.

In the end, Link defeats Demise utterly on a battlefield of water and lightning, charging his own blade with it and striking the killing blow. Demise perishes and is absorbed into the Master Sword, directly after threatening that his hate, never perishing, will follow Link and Zelda throughout time.

And there you have it. Sky has just defeated the original incarnation of a cycle of endless hatred.

What are your headcanon ages for the main character, bachelors, and bachelorettes from Rune Factory 4?

oh my gosh I started answering this like a week ago and then it fell through one of the swiss cheese holes in my brain. Sorry Nonny!

I don't really have any hard headcanons about the rf4 character ages, and really what I do have is just kind of a general age range for them. But if you're curious about how the characters read to me maturity-wise I'll tell you.

Frey/Lest - I think they're in their early 20s, somewhere between 19-23 at the beginning of the game. the amnesia helps them have a bit more of the "youthful innocence" that just comes as being that age. Like you can clearly tell they're grown and responsible enough to have been given the story-compelling mission in the first place, but that also have the energy and optimism of someone who still sees the world as completely open to possibilities without as much of the "i need to have my shit together" vibes an older 20-something might have

Amber and Kiel are the ones I headcanon as the youngest, and they both give me very strong late-teens/babey adult vibes. I don't see them any older than 19 at the beginning of the game. And depending on when in the RF world society would consider someone a Full Adult TM, it can change the lower end of that age range, so even to 16 or 17. They're not children, but they're still kids, if that makes sense. They both still have "parental" figures in their lives so they're not entirely independent as an older adult might be.

Forte, though I actually don't think is too much older than Kiel, she's maybe just a few years older than him. So about the same age as Frey/Lest, early 20s, no older than 25. I think given her family history and her general character she was definitely the girl who had to grow up too fast and has acted more mature than other kids her age needed to. So she can very easily be read as older, but I think there's enough clues in her dialogue and her character to show that she's younger than she wants people to perceive her as.

I get the same general age range from Vishnal and Clorica too, 19-25 though probably closer to college ages. Vishnal I think is the younger of the two butlers. Their roles as apprentices and the fact that they're still in training tells me they're probably still rather young adults. I imagine butler training of the caliber they're going through is a 4-6 year ordeal and I imagine they would have started in their late teens/early 20s, much like most people choosing a career path.

Xiao Pai and Doug are the last of the under 25s. It's hard to know Doug's precise age, given he's not human and dwarves are long-lived in the RF world. So while he might look and act like a hot-headed 19-22 year old, he might be 60-70 years old. They've never really spelled out the lifetimes of the non-human races. Xiao Pai I tend to read as on the younger end of her 20s, but given the way she acts and her general clumsiness (which are often associated with younger people) she could also be older than that. It's hard to say.

Margaret is another one of those ambiguously ages characters, being an elf, we don't actually know how old she is. But I definitely read her as an adult in her mid-late 20s. I think she's the eldest-coded bachelorette, so I could even see her as a 30-something. (I genuinely don't think any of the bachelorettes are supposed to be older than 30 because god knows the developers would have had them complaining about being an old maid and a spinster 🙄) She just reads as a character who has had much more worldly experience than the younger girls, and yeah, some of that can be attributed to the fact that she's had Decades more time and lots of freedom than the others, but she also feels more settled into life and adulthood than a younger character would.

Dolce I think is mid-20s. I can't really explain it, but she just gives me "I'm 25 and I've finally felt my brain chemistry solidify" vibes. I do think what she went through in her life, as well as dealing with an eternally youthful and chaotic spirit of Pico probably made her act more mature than she was, much like Forte, but I also do think she's just a little bit older than most of the other marriage candidates in town.

Dylas and Arthur I think are around the same age, mid-20s. Arthur I could push to late-20s, but there's something about his character that makes me go "oh no, he still has that independent streak of the young 20s" I do think his upbringing also forced maturity onto him at a younger age than would otherwise be expected, but he also took on responsibilities that people might not expect someone so young to do (he also shirked the responsibilities he didn't want to do, so again that independent/rebellious streak) Dylas I think acts younger than he really is, though he's really not all that old. I think he got to spend a several years living as an adult in his original time before becoming a guardian, though he didn't really see himself as 'grown' back then and that carried over to how he behaves in game (with additional traumas)

Which brings us to Leon as the last, I think. He's the one I could possibly see being the oldest of all the bachelors, late-20s to early-30s. In his life before becoming a guardian he has established a whole vocation and had been in it long enough to become a high-ranking priest. Even if he had started his vocational training as a young teen, I don't think he could have gotten as far without spending a good portion of his 20s working at it.

So the tl;dr list:

like. okay. heres a couple of disclaimers: this is a repeat, but i have not watched the anime. so if the character dynamics from it are your canon, just know i may not follow that. second, i… dont really think about mahiru that much. shes not really that much of a character to me, given what were given in canon, and the Casual Man Hating Mom Friend Lesbian (and i know she canonically has a crush on hajime so shes definitely bi or pan dont yell at me) trope just does nothing for me im sorry HOWEVER. in contrast to fuyuhiko, and in terms of what, in my brain, she does during the tragedy (which will probably WILDLY contradict literally everyone else’s opinions), there IS something in… her* arc post sim (that * will come back) that DOES interest me. bear with me

fuyuhikos ingrained belief system revolves almost entirely around the phrase ‘There is always a bigger fish.’ there is always going to be someone stronger, bigger, and more dangerous than you, so you have to work to be the strongest, biggest, and most dangerous you can in order to stay alive. along with that, he’s had very strangled views of what it means to be a Man shoved down his throat by most likely his father, so to him, being a man means being Big and Strong and Dangerous. but at the same time… he knows thats all bullshit. hes had other influences in his life, peko, his sister and, in my mind, his mother and other strong women high up in his clan, that have shown him the falsehoods of a lot of those claims. at the same time, he also knows, in the back of his head, that he physically can not meet those expectations for being a man. but… he is one. i think hes Solid in that. so it ends up all conglomerating and fighting in his head in a very confusing mess, which honestly has to be exhausting.

mahiru, by contrast, seems to have this very odd two-part system of beliefs, where being a man means being Confident and Strong and Protective, but at the same time, men are fundamentally Lazy and Stupid and Uncaring. women need to be protected by men, but also men are unnecessary. its… yeah its honestly familiar lmao. and some of this is the writers’ beliefs seeping in and some of it is bad writing but at the end of the day its what weve got.

so, to me, it really feels like the two of them would have absolutely hated each others guts during school. fuyuhiko is neither Big and Strong and Caring, nor is he Lazy and Stupid and Uncaring. he cares a lot, but not openly, or in a way that mahiru would easily recognize. hes an enigma in her eyes. and to fuyuhiko, mahiru is stuck in a frame of mind hes been fighting since he was a child, and as much as he’d try to be sympathetic, his anger has a tendency to get the better of him.

so… sato’s death would only have made this situation worse.

i dont think any of them knew he was responsible for her death. i dont think fuyuhiko told ANYONE aside from peko, especially since this would have been in their second year, after junko had begun sinking her talons into the entire class. how could he trust any of them? and he has to have known about her connection to mahiru, its the only way he could have found out she was involved in natsumi’s death. he kept it from her in particular, knowing she wouldn’t understand, knowing she would blame him, knowing it would just make things worse.

she probably doesnt realize the full extent of everything until… until after she wakes up.

im not gonna go too much into them as despairs, but lets just say that fuyuhiko… is responsible for a lot of bad things, even ones that happened to his fellow limbs. mahiru also did a lot of shit, but hiko i think is one of the only ones who hurt his so-called allies. and her cheery, fake, influencer-like attitude absolutely grated on him like crazy, resulting in a lot of screaming matches and even physical altercations.

so, when mahiru wakes up, her opinion of fuyuhiko is the lowest it could possibly be. hes an enigma, a stick in the gears, a man who hasnt yet shown his true colors and yet is also a violent, cruel dictator, fulfilling every expectation she has for the kind of man she expects the Ultimate Yakuza to be.

except he isnt. because by the time she wakes up, its been over a year and a half since the program shut down, and fuyuhiko is a very, very different person. and he doesnt have a low opinion of her at all. hes incredibly sympathetic to her situation, understands how much pain shes probably in, understands theres definitely a lot more under her surface beliefs that he doesnt see or know yet. thinks it was incredibly brave of her to stand up to him despite knowing he could be violent and dangerous.

and as the days go by, she sees that. sees him interacting with the others, sees him laugh at one of hajimes stupid jokes, sees him smile and roll his eyes at kazuichi’s physical affection, sees him lean on his cane when his leg flares up, sees him rubbing at the scars around his eye when they ache. sees how much respect he treats her with, how much space he gives her while not avoiding confrontations, because hes done running. hes been running for far too long, and hes done with it.

i think it takes a long time. weeks, maybe. months, possibly. but i think it starts to weigh on her mind, that she cant keep treating him like a criminal. like a weapon. cant keep ignoring his humanity in favor of the label of Violent Man that sits in her brain. and, additionally, interacting with the others, with hajime, with sonia, with kazuichi and sagishi. she starts to realize how utterly stupid the rigid gender structures that exist in her heard really are.

basically what im saying is i think mahiru is a he/him butch bi woman because i love to hit characters with the Cool Ass Gender ray. this is where that * comes back by the way thats why thats there because mahirus not a girl but also he is a girl but also hes not. hope this helps <3 also he and fuyuhiko are Worsties. they should eventually get to a point where they can both make jokes about the fact that fuyuhiko tried to kill him and can also have serious conversations about the sato and natsumi shit without devolving into unproductive arguing.

Jaden Yuki/Yuki Judai

How I feel about this character: My monstrous little card game fella who I love SO much. Came into my house and kicked me in the ribs by being the actual textbook example of the "Aw! What a silly little guy!" to "He's a little bit fucked up actually" pipeline. I love how absolutely insane and messy he's allowed to be for a main character, not only did most of his arcs hit FAR too close to home, but it's just such a good example of how to take the archetypal plucky protag and deconstruct it a bit to add layers to the character. My second favorite yugioh character of all time, if I'm being subjective, my #1 fave if I'm being objective. Levels of queer neurodivergent swag I aspire to match.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I just can't deny Jaden his funky southern rock boyf. I read him as somewhere on the ace spectrum, in a QPR with Jesse/Johan that all their friends assume is a traditional romantic relationship. Also, Yusei Fudo, because I am a sucker for narrative parallels, celestial imagery, stupid aces with the social skills of a tennis shoe.

My non-romantic otp for this character: I think he and Chazz have this relationship where Chazz gets up in the night, goes down to his kitchen, flips on the lights, and Jaden is just there eating his cereal. They are BEST FRIENDS and Chazz will not admit this even if you put a gun to his head.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Man, I wish we'd gotten more time with Yubel, but I never really got the feeling that Jaden felt any strong romantic/partner emotions towards them. Him choosing to fuse with Yubel is less a "And I will now give up everything for you, my One True Soulmate", and more just a simple acknowledgement of "You've been hurt really horribly because of me, so I'm offering you kindness and accepting responsibility for our relationship, because you don't deserve to be in pain" Which, personally, I think is a lot more impactful and fulfilling of his personal arc.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: I kinda wish he hadn't actually graduated high school? I mean, obviously they would never do that, but I remember watching the final season and thinking "Yeah, there's no way he's going to graduate." Idk, he's just got Highschool Dropout energy to me and I almost wanted to see that. Let him fail out of school because he was too busy sorting out his mental health! That's very valid of him!

Crow Hogan

How I feel about this character: Trans king! I look at one picture of Crow and my brain just maxes out "Trans! Bird! Guy!" He commits crime. He has five kids. He literally named himself after a yugioh card. There's just so much good big bro energy in this funky dude. I would trust him with my life.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Uh, probably no one? There's not really any named character in the series I feel he had romantic chemistry with. He and Broder probably dated for a bit then broke up and remained friends.

My non-romantic otp for this character: The first ep. he was introduced and we actually see Yusei smile for almost the first time all series and duel and have fun with it, the big hug and the way each others face lights up when they see each other for the first time in years. Your honor, they are very important.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He's older than Yusei. Yeah I don't care what canon says, Yusei is the family Babey and Crow is a full six months older than him.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Some more exploration on what Crow gaining his signer mark actually meant to him. Did he feel like a replacement? What exactly did it mean to him that the tail mark jumped to him just so the head could move to Yusei? He's kind of the only one who doesn't get a whole plotline on how they feel about being a signer, so I always feel like there's some untapped potential for an arc there.

teko's uhhhhhh guide to hammer-swinging idiots i think

so i saw a certain @ConcernedRowlet's guide to pokemon care on chatter and i was immediately like "hey this is super good and all but you know what it needs? more memes and affectionate badmouthing of the pokemon in question" so allow me to enlighten you about how to care for these little hammer shitling goblins through the lens of my personal experiences and a shitload of sleep deprivation in the form of a rotumblr post

[ahem] "fuckin' tinkatink line! how do they work?"

these guys are all-female fairy/steel types and they're uhhhh so like you know those inventors in a lot of TV shows the ones who somehow come up with just the thing to save the day and can casually flaunt the rules of science because it's cool for the audience to watch like uhhh professor farnsworth or something ...yeah imagine that, but they're perpetually disheveled and constantly acting like they just did a line of cocaine and pounded back a six-pack of monster immediately after

let's start with tinkatink tiny babey the little rattle thing they hoist around that's supposed to be a hammer due to them not being very strong in this form it's less a "hammer" and more like "heavy-ass monster hunter greatsword" to them their technique with it is less "hit the enemy" and more of a "use the sheer weight and heft of the thing to swing yourself around in the hopes you manage to concuss something" sort of thing it's important to get them accustomed to using it quickly so they're less likely to hurt themselves trying to flail around, especially in battles

they're fiercely protective of their little scrap clump, and for good reason you know how i said they're not very strong well ferrovores (metal eaters like aggron or steelix) often eat their hammer  it's like a little iron-flavored sucker this is bad news for the tinkatink, because having the physical strength of a wet spaghetti noodle doesn't do much for self defense

this is not a wild pokemon exclusive thing, either if you have any ferrovorous pokemon in your squad be sure to establish early on that this thing is friend, not food it's important for the tinkatink too they're perfectionists when it comes to the hammer and will take it pretty hard if it gets eaten what you should do if this happens is assure them it's not their fault, and give them little pieces of scrap metal to help them along

now onto tinkatuff! bigger! stronger! dumber? these guys are sort of like the vigoroth of the line well uh if vigoroth didn't evolve into a fat lazy fuck, at any rate in this form, your buddy gets more of the hyperactive temperament the line is known for

they're also very stupid there i said it i'm sorry but they are dumb as all distortion like, they're not dumb in the sense that there's nothing going on up there like a slowbro or volcarona but they're morons in the same way as a frat boy with ADHD on top of having a ridiculous amount of ideas rattling around in their skulls (most of them poorly thought-out) they think they know everything when they really, really don't and since they have the impulse control of a two year old things can go...badly

in this form it's imperative for you to put a lot of effort into cleaning them this is because they get...filthy like really filthy here's a fun little experiment: attach a poke doll or other such plush toy to a pokemon's leash and let it drag through the dirt as it runs then briefly dunk it in whatever you're cooking for dinner  congratulations you're now in the ballpark of how dirty they get

in the wild they basically live in huge burrows of scrap metal and food waste they make in their forges they have little to no standards for cleanliness because of this told you they were like frat boys they eventually begrudgingly pick the bare minimum off of their trashpile-mates when their fur becomes super duper matted and stuff it's up to you to keep them from getting to this point by gently scrubbing, cleaning and thoroughly combing their fur on the regular fortunately they don't like, hate baths and stuff: they just really can't be assed to clean themselves in the slightest

ooh right right right the hammer almost forgot about that not long after evolving these guys will seek out any metal they can get their mitts on to beef up their hammer ...the "beefing up" usually consists of just taping on a few pieces of bent metal and lengthening the pole, but still, A for effort

but when i say any metal i mean any metal they can and will get it off of a large appliance, your plumbing, even a steel-type corpse if you leave them to their own devices they can literally smell metal so don't think your plumbing is safe either so as soon as they evolve it's best to get them more materials fortunately many stores in paldea (and a few other places) sell different types of sheet metal for the express purpose of sating their appetite and if not just going to your local hardware place is usually enough to tide them over or if you're really cheap you could just rummage for stuff in local scrapyards take her with you when you do this your partner has a good eye for what they're after, she'll know which kind of metal is right for her the hammer gets juiced up more and more as they get stronger so you're gonna have to provide them with more metal when it finally reaches a certain size and grandiose-ness you can often expect them to evolve not long after

on top of that, being the ADHD-ass little nutjobs that they are, they test their hammer by smashing it against whatever catches their eye they get much physically stronger here, so their swings have a bit of heft to them now unless you want a lot of ventilation in your home take measures to control this immediately fill a punching bag with rocks, let them go nuts with it, and put it back up again whenever they start beefing up their hammer some more this teaches them not to hit random stuff

and finally tinkaton! tinkaton are crafty very crafty they're still not smart by any means but they are crafty so crafty, in fact, that they often use other pokemon as tools

there are close to no limits on what they can find uses for, so if one of your team members finds themselves getting used as a power drill or smth, don't be surprised: this even applies to their battle strategies

they get a lot stronger in this phase and i mean a lot you think some of the stuff fighting types like machamp and conkeldurr can handle are impressive try hurling around a 200lb+ blunt object like it's a long twig and still being able to lift more if they wanted to they could probably swing you around as a hammer too! ....not sure how well that would go, since you'd probably splatter as soon as they hit you against something, but they still could!

their hammer is very large and elaborate now it's almost a miracle that it's still built around the same rattle thing it had as a tinkatink! they don't need beds or blankets or anything because, get this, they just plant the hammer into the ground and pass out i always wonder how their back isn't torn to fucking pieces when they wake up from sleeping on a giant lump of metal if they trust you enough, they'll eventually start lightly bopping you on the head with it as a sign of affection!

in the wild, they live in large clans with other members of their line called "forges" these forges are equal part giant trash and scrap burrows and huge testing grounds for whatever crazy thing they decide to band together and build they also make prosthetics for wounded pokemon out of steel-type carcasses in exchange for scrap metal and berries!

forges typically give roving trainers a wide berth because they know pissing off humans is a bad idea very rarely a stray tinkatuff will ignore this because, again, they're foolhardy dumbasses if they go after you just hit it with a few status moves and it'll typically turn tail and get a stern talking to from the forge's elders or you could just use whirlwind or smth the different forges in paldea are proficient at utilizing different pokemon, and even form sort of partnerships with them for example the asado desert forge teams up with varoom and revavroom to use them as steeds [Image ID: A Tinkaton with a red scrap cloth headband riding a Revavroom, leading a pack of Tinkatuff and Tinkatink riding several Varoom.]

as you'd guess from this they're very social creatures it's important to let them bond with the rest of your team better in this form, as they serve as surrogates for their pack if you want you can also visit your local forge to let your tinkaton screw around with the forge members a bit for funsies

a common misconception is that tinkaton hunt down corviknight by tossing rocks (or sometimes other pokemon, such as falinks troopers) at them in the air with their hammer hence why squawkabilly is used as the flying taxi coach in paldea this is actually a lie and they get hard walled by corviknight (and then they get salty over not being able to do anything useful in the battle) they do it because to them it's funny as shit it's like their equivalent to miltank tipping they don't really do it to other people's corviknight because it's not as funny: they don't get as surprised because they're far closer to the ground

they're also super driven to build stuff what is "stuff?" nobody knows! not even them! sometimes they just get a flash of inspiration and start scribbling out plans for some sort of grandiose scrap metal behemoth and you just have to roll with it if you have a bit of engineering/mechanical know-how, you can feel free to join in the fun!

....unfortunately that's where the burglary sprees start

i have worked with several of these rattata bastards and i can say with complete certainty that they're all a bunch of kleptomaniacal shitheads seriously if you took one of those Rabbid things from Rayman and gave them a hammer well uh you wouldn't exactly have a tinkaton but you'd be pretty arcdamn close

if they need metal and you don't give it to them they will steal things computer parts refrigerator doors stove hatches engine blocks it does not matter what it is or what it's made of if it ain't nailed down and it's made of metal they're taking that shit this is why it's really, really important to teach them to ask for your aid if they're in the mood to build something

they also need to hunt wild steel-types not often, mind you, kinda like pyroar prides but it's still sometimes tinkaton are hardwired to kill for their materials giving them sheet metal and stuff helps with the urge to build but not the urge to "disassemble" steel types you'll need to get the proper licenses to hunt pokemon and only go after any steel-types that are in season to do this what they're after is metal pokemon with only small bits of metal on their body, or those which have the metal-y bits on the inside, like lucario or togedemaru, are typically off the menu they also need you to help, and possibly your other pokemon remember what i said about them being pack hunters to them, you're the pack's leader, so they look to your guidance for hunting

unfortunately this, along with the stealing part, is why a lot of trainers end up abandoning/releasing them in this phase some people can't bring themselves to be complicit in outright hunting down pokemon, only capturing them, which is understandable being denied part of the enrichment it needs, the tinkaton begins lashing out in other areas to try and vent some of the stress it's built up with no other suitable outlets this can lead to your opponents or even other people getting seriously hurt if you're looking to raise one of these guys, please, look for a suitable alternative unless you're willing to really, really commit that said, give 'em what they need and rein them in here and there and you'll have a loyal (if slightly violent) partner who can come up with some truly amazing things like this [Image ID: A Tinkaton decked out in an imposing suit of armor made from assorted scrap metal and Steel-type hide, posing triumphantly atop its hammer, which is planted into the ground. cotton likes eating her food on her hammer as well as sleeping on it, yet she doesn't like it getting cleaned ...she doesn't seem to make the correlation between a dirty hammer and more baths ...nor does she seem to care

she likes listening to "Sweet Release of DEATH - Sugary Spire" before battles because it gets her even more hyper than usual this helps because i like to use her as a support lead/damage dealer hybrid, because, as befitting their crafty nature, they learn a lot of support-oriented moves

do you make your bed? no. i briefly did but i can't sleep well in a made bed apparently so i stopped bothering

what's your job? i'm a cleaner at my local hospital, i clean the toilets on my area (there are so many)

if you could go back to school, would you? probably not, i'm not really good at school and i don't miss it

can you parallel park? no, probably not even if i could drive

do you think aliens are real? yeah. i mean there literally is life on other planets, but if you mean like sapient aliens specifically then also yeah. i can't imagine it's just us in the whole universe. we'll probably never find each other though

can you drive a manual car? i can't drive any kind of car and i don't want to

guilty pleasure? i had this question from a friend a while back and i really just don't understand the concept i don't think

tattoos? currently just the one, it's an otter penguin from atla, matching with one of my friends

favourite colour? yellow and blue!

favourite type of music? i dunno, it varies, rock i guess. i like being able to blast music that vibrates my skull, or music that i can bounce and stomp along to in the kitchen

do you like puzzles? i do! i don't do as many puzzles now but i have some sudoku books tucked away somewhere and i nabbed my sisters book to do some logic puzzles a while back

any phobias? i wouldn't consider any fears i have a phobia and i think they're perfectly rational fears so no

childhood sport? absolutely not, i might like watching sport now but i've never enjoyed playing any myself. i'm a video games and reading kinda bear

do you talk to yourself? yeah but not a lot. i catch myself doing it sometimes but it's mostly when i'm overstimulated or having a meltdown babey

tea or coffee? i'm not really a big drinker of either? when i'm at home i'm more likely to drink tea at the minute, and if i'm out it's always coffee

what was the first thing you wanted to be when you grew up? palaeontologist! i was obsessed with dinosaurs and constantly rewatched whatever dinosaur things we had on tape, probably walking with dinosaurs mostly

what movies do you adore? oh so many! my absolute favs are 2001 a space odyssey and pacific rim! annihilation is an absolute banger, i watched it every day for like 2 weeks when it first came out. color out of space too, it's one i really wanna rewatch and i've not been able to talk to anyone about it cause nobody i know will watch it! sci-fi and cosmic horror my beloveds~

So yeah, after one year of it sitting there, with its fourth chapter unfinished, I decided to raise it up from the grave and get it done after I have found my reason to continue the series XD

The warm sun was high this noon, shining upon the vast ocean of the usually calm Pacific. A peaceful day it seemed like. Though the same cannot be said for the small Tracy Island.

 Since his days in the Air Force, there was one lesson Jeff kept close to heart; never say the “Q” word. Like a sneaky Jinx, say it and all hell breaks loose! As the superstition goes. He hoped nothing goes completely hell, knock on wood.

 And he couldn’t help but to sympathize with his eldest son as he walks down the stairs with a face of regret for saying the cursed word not a few hours ago.

 Well, what happened? One of Brains’ inventions when up in sparks, Gordon decided to dump menthol cream in one of Scott’s shirts and Virgil… well… Let’s just say he’s having way too much fun in the pool.

 Water was everywhere. The strong boy nearly ruined the book Jeff was reading! (At least he apologized.)

 Poor Scott, walking with shame and then slumped on the chair, wishing he could retrack his mistake. The patriarch smiled as he spoke, “You do know things go chaotic anyways in this house, right?”

 “Well yeah. As if this fact didn’t make things better,” sighed Scott dryly, his eyes looking up at the precious blue sky, as if vowing to it.

 Jeff noticed the pilot of Thunderbird One was still shaking from the freezing effects of the menthol. He held off a snort. Scott immediately turned to him with a pout of an old man, causing the old fox bite his lower lip to retain a bubbling laughter and lifting the book to hide his cheeky smile. Yet his bluesish grey eyes was sparkling with mirth.

 “Well at least it cooled you off a bit,” he replied casually when he sensed an accusing question.

 “Daaaaaaad!” Scott called him out.

 Jeff innocently chuckled.

 “Maybe I should put menthol in your shirt…” the pilot huffed mockingly.

 “Oh, you can try boy! You can try,” the patriarch put up a confident smile as he returned reading the book.

 In the corner of his eye, he saw Scott staring at him for a long moment. Then, a predatory smile creeped up on his lips. He then got up and pretending to walk innocently towards the pool, picking up an empty cup from the table as he went. Just as he was about to scoop some water, a giant splash swallowed the poor man. A muscular form of his brother laughed as the now wet Scott turned to him with a yell.

 “Virgil!”

 “Hahaha, got you Scott!” teasing hazel eyes glimmered at the disappointed blue ones.

 As the brothers started at each other, Jeff automatically began a countdown in his head.

 Three…

 Two…

 One…

 Half a second, Earth and Sky showed their grins. Another half a second, and Scott had already pounced on Virgil and the usual wrestling began. At least they took their match in the water this time for a change. Jefferson had to quickly move to a safer ground to avoid the wrath of the splashing water, or else he would’ve become a wet fox, again. He chuckled as he went back to reading his book.

 Loud splashes and laughter of the two eldest were like music to the patriarch’s ears as he engrossed himself into his book. Worries tucked away for the moment of peace. The winds were at ease and the sky was in its most blue as the sun was at its highest. Jeff breathed the warm air as he flipped a page, letting his body sub-consciously laying down to a comfortable position on his sun lounger.

 Until when he noticed a curvy and beautifully dressed figure approaching him. He looked over above his shades and the rim of his book and smiled when he saw a familiar Malaysian girl. She was wearing one of her unique dresses, shell earrings and colorful rope bracelets.

 Its no wonder his youngest son was in love with her.

 “Oh! Hi Tin-Tin, what’s up?” greeted Jeff warmly, gently putting down his book on his lap.

 “Nothing is really up, Mr. Tracy,” she spoke with a very friendly tone. Then her face morphed that of worry, “I was wondering if you have seen my father? He seemed to be acting strangely lately…”

 The patriarch immediately frowned, gripping his lounger like he was about to catapult himself in he heard anything bad happened to Kyrano. “Did he have one of his fits? (It better not that bastard again…)” he almost growled at the thought after asking a question.

 “No Mr. Tracy. He did not. He’s just simply became… wary…” she pursed her lips.

 “Wary? Of what exactly?” the patriarch raised a brow, slowly putting down his book that he didn’t notice he was gripping on it. Tin-Tin shrugged and added that her father was acting like this since that Fateful Rescue.

 Jeff’s body sagged in relief.

 It wasn’t much of a surprise to him at this point. It sure seemed that everyone was beginning to feel like walking on eggshells by the day. And the said rescue was just two days ago!

 As for the Kamen Riders? Who knows what they were getting up to… Too mysterious for his liking.

 How ironic, here he thought he knew enough about them.

 Jeff slowly thought back of that day… the smoke… the heavy blizzard… the dark horned figure… the two big, round, glowing red eyes… staring at him from afar…

 “Mr. Tracy? Are you alright?” Tin-Tin’s voice snapped him back to reality.

 “O-Oh yes, Tin-Tin! Just… lost in thought,” Jeff smiled, the thought quickly shook off from his mind.

 Then, the kiosk began beeping, alerting the family. The patriarch quickly took out his tiny photo album from his pocket and flipped the leather pages containing the small portraits of his sons until he found that of John.

 “Go ahead John!” called Jeff. Like the ones in the lounge, the portrait switched to a video screen, his middle son appearing with a worried face.

 “Father, I got a distress call from the North Australian Iron Mine. It had been attacked by those same creatures from the Fateful Rescue!” relayed the space operator in a serious tone.

 “What!?” cried both Scott and Virgil from the pool, distracted from their water wrestling match. Tin-Tin mirrored their confusion.

 “Why are they calling us for this kind of situation, John? They should be calling the Kamen Riders,” Jeff raised a brow.

 “Unfortunately, there’s no way of calling these fellas,” the space operator shook his head, “And there are some people trapped in one of the mine’s drills during the attack. Worse, they damaged the drill enough that if prolonged, it will explode!”

 Jeff noticed both of his eldest sons hurrying out of the pool and getting themselves dried while waiting for his command.

 “Alright. Tell them we’re on our way!” Jeff commanded as he got up from his sun lounger, “Scott. Virgil. Launch Thunderbird One and Two immediately. And take Brains with you, Virgil. I think he’s needed for it.”

 “Yes, Father!” the three eldest of the Tracy Brothers nodded before running off.

 “I just hope the Riders come soon,” the patriarch murmured to himself, as he followed his boys to the lounge, with Tin-Tin not far behind.

 In the safety of a small broken-down cabin, Tensai was testing some interesting experiments. Strange weapons scattered around his table and scribbled notes littered the floor.

 With a twist of an odd-looking futuristic wrench, he completely sealed off the last piece of a sword. He then examined his weapon thoroughly, before grinning proudly with a child-like giggle, his red and blue eyes glowed with an excitement of a gremlin.

 Oh, how he couldn’t wait to experiment with the new upgrade on those nasty Kaijins. His fathers would be very proud of his work into advancing their tech to combat the terrors, and for Love and Peace-

 His self-indulgent thoughts halted when his alarm rang from self-made frequency device. He quickly checked it, and it seemed it had caught a radio frequency from a nearby mine, calling for help of the illusive International Rescue.

 “Ooooooohhhhhhh… Goodie, goodie!” he clapped his hands, then scratched the back of his head with big enthusiasm. A tuff of his hair sprung up, like an ear of a rabbit who just found food.

 He immediately snatched his weapons, his unique devices, and his motorbike helmet, and ran off outside. He took out his phone-like device and punched a code on it, to which the device sprung out of his hands, spun as it grew and transformed into a motorbike! He then sat on his Rider Machine and revved his engine. 

 “Now… Let’s begin the experiment!” he murmured to himself with a cheeky smug, as he strapped his Driver onto his midsection.
